Volunteer With Us!

Arizona Food Allergy is always looking for volunteers to help reach out to the food allergy community of Arizona. Our main goal in involving volunteers is to give you a tool to reach out to your immediate community and meet your needs. It becomes multi-beneficial for all involved as we spread education, awareness and support across the State of Arizona! Questions, email info@arizonafoodallergy.org. We have the following positions available:
General Volunteer
Time donated: as available, flexible.
This General Volunteer position places you on a general interest email list for volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Our Volunteer Coordinator will email opportunities as they come e.g. Zoo Walk, Camp, Teen-Lock-In, Advocacy opportunity and more. If you are able to volunteer - great! If you are not - that's okay too! This option allows you to have flexibility in helping the food allergy and anaphylaxis community through AFAA's many events, awareness and advocacy opportunities year-round.
Education Specialist
Time donated: 2 hours including drive time, flexible, as needed/requested through our Safe @ Schools training statewide. Heavy in August/September. Light the rest of the year.
Conduct Safe @ School trainings that last about 45 minutes with about 15 minutes for Q&A. Plus drive time. Presentation materials supplied by AFAA.
Zoo Walk Committee Member | Phoenix, Tucson or Prescott
Time donated: As able during the year, plus walk day 3 hours, flexible.
Needed in Phoenix, Tucson and Prescott. Assist in the AFAA Zoo Walk | Phoenix, Tucson or Prescott day of walk. Can also assist in sponsorship throughout the year.
Camp Ye bik'ehgo Committee Member
Time donated: The 3rd Tuesday-Wednesday of each year (e.g. June 17-19, 2015), from 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Duties include time for set-up, clean-up, and other day of Camp Counselor duties.
AFAA Teen Lock-In Committee Member
Time donated: The first Friday in October through the following Saturday morning (8 p.m. - 6 a.m.).
Duties include time for set-up, clean-up, and other day of Chaperone and Committee Member duties.
AFAA Conference Facilitator
Time donated: 4-5 hours, 1-3 times per year. Includes prep-time, and day of conference facilitating.
Duties include Coordinate location and speakers with Director of Operations, and host day of conference. Take place the 3rd Saturday in February, May and/or September. You can host 1, 2, or 3 conferences.
AFAA Play Date Facilitator
Time donated: 2-3 hours one time per year, or more as desired.
Duties include selecting a location and hosting AFAA's annual play date on the 4th Saturday of August annually. You can host more play dates as desired with Director of Operations approval.
AFAA After Hours Facilitator
Time donated: 2-3 hours one time per year, or more as desired.
Duties include selecting a location (e.g. bowling alley, wine bar, etc.), and hosting the get together "social". This event takes place the 2nd Saturday in December annually around the "holiday" season, and can also include additional get-togethers as desired with Director of Operations approval.
Grant Writer
Time donated: About 1 to 1.5 hours per month, flexible.
Seek and submit for national, state, county and city level grants for AFAA.
Specialty Relations Liaison
Time donated: About 1 to 1.5 hours per event, flexible.
Do you represent a local specialized health group such as diabetes, asthma, celiac, eosinophilia or otherwise? Volunteer with AFAA to bring free commmunity events to your group that are food/candy free, and cost $$ free!
AFAA College or University Intern
Time donated: Anywhere from 5 to 40 hours per week. As needed by student to fulfill requirements of your local college or university. 95% telecommuting from home or school, about 5% event work or commuting.
Do you need to complete internship hours with a local non-profit organization? We have positions available in management, marketing, publicity, and more! We can provide students with as much or as little opportunity and "hours" as needed to complete their requirements.
Sample Internship
- Assist in creating marketing campaigns (newsletter, social media, PSA, etc.) for events such as Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Awareness Week, Zoo Walk, and more.
- Attend events and assist with signage, print, radio copy and other marketing materials.
- Distribute marketing materials.
- Assist in designing marketing, education, and awareness materials such as AFAA rack cards, flyers, and more.
